Which Tourist Sites to Visit in the Lot

There are lots of tourist sites to see and visit in the Lot and we don’t visit all of them via our cycling holidays. We have lots of routes that do but we only vary our routes for returning guests or for special custom tours.

In the Lot there are two of the most visited sites in France – Rocamadour and St Cirque Lapopie.

Rocamadour is an ancient pilgrimage site with a monastery perched on top of a cliff with fantastic views across the Dordogne Valley. This has been a popular site since the 12th century when the corpse of Saint Amadour was discovered, intact.

St Cirque Lapopie has been voted by the French as the most beautiful village in France. It is siuated on top of a hill overlooking the Lot Valley. This is one of the most visited tourist site in the Lot.

Nearby is Pech Merle Cave. It is more than two kilometres long with prehistoric paintings on some walls.

Cahors the capital of the Lot department has the Pont Valentre bridge crossing the river Lot, built in 1308 and is a Unesco World Heritage Site. It is one of the best examples of a fortified bridge with three towers and eight arches.
